Information on the Content of the Book
PEKING - PARIS 2007

Here is a brief description of the content of a prepared book entitled "Across the World by Car - from Peking to Paris in 30 Days"
  • The main part of the book tracing the history of this famous car race held back in 1907 will present excerpts and historical photographs from the first book written by journalist Luigi Barzini, a participant in the 1907 race. Entitled "Across the World by Car - from Peking to Paris in 60 Days", the book was published for the first time in 1907.

  • In a chapter on the preparations for the race I would like to portray several unsuccessful attempts at resuming this legendary race in previous years, attempts in which I was a direct participant and sometimes an initiator as well. This chapter will also contain a short report on the long preparations of the car Lancia Theta, manufactured in 1916 and bearing the starting No. 8. I myself had an opportunity to follow preparations of that particular car since 2005.

  • "Forwards - Forwards, Laé-laé-la!!" The race as seen through the eyes of a journalist and from the window of an accompanying car. This chapter also portrays the places visited on the route of the race.

  • This section may be called "The Adventures of Those Magnificent Men and Women in Their Wonderful Machines from Peking to Paris". This very headline is an apt description of the chapter's content, showing that this will be a varied mixture of multifaceted views of the one and the same race.

  • An important part of the book will be the starting list of the race, supplemented with a photographic gallery showing the participating crews, as captured by the camera of photographer Libor Sváček.

  • A key documentary supplement will be the Rules of the Peking to Paris Race 2007 plus the list of the results, and an example of the race's itinerary.

  • The last section of the book will feature a reproduced map of the original race in 1907, taken over from the original edition of Luigi Barzini´s book.
